Mount Elgon National Park features Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano which at 4000km2 has the largest volcanic base in the world and lies on the border of Eastern Uganda and Western Kenya. It’s vast from, 80km Diameter, rises 300m above the surrounding plains. It has a mountainous regional landscape which provides refuge for flora and fauna.
The park is home to over 300 species of birds including the endangered lammergeyer, small antelopes, forest monkeys, elephants and buffalos also live on the mountain side. The higher slopes are protected by national parks in Uganda and Kenya, creating extensive trans-boundary conservation area which has been declared a UNCESCO Main Biosphere Reserve.
